The Search for Something We Never Had
Most of us have walked the Yellow Brick Road at some point in our lives. We may not have known it then, but we were journeyers searching for something we did not receive at home, something we could not name but deeply longed for. For many, that something is Love, joy, a sense of belonging, a feeling of being seen, valued, and protected. Yet, without understanding how to access these things within ourselves, we set out on a blind search, wandering in a world that mirrors our uncertainties.
For those carrying past trauma, emotional pain, and toxic stress, the Yellow Brick Road offers what seems to be the only viable option: a pathway toward soothing the wounds of the past, numbing the pain of the present, and avoiding the uncertainty of the future. The promise of something better keeps us moving, but what happens when the illusion fails to deliver?
The Illusion of Healing: Searching for the Wizzo
In the classic tale, Dorothy and her companions searched for the Wizard of Oz, believing he held the power to grant their deepest desires. They thought their wholeness, worth, and completeness were in someone else’s hands. But what happens when the Wizard is just an illusion? In the Land of WizOz, the Wizzo represents every false promise of healing we have ever chased.
🔹 The idea that if we find the right partner, we will finally feel loved.
🔹 The belief that if we achieve enough, we will finally feel worthy.
🔹 The illusion that if we make others happy, we will finally feel safe.
🔹 The fantasy that if we push our pain deep enough, we will never have to face it.
Yet, these external searches only leave us stuck, perplexed, and locked in a never-ending loop of survival mode, and survival mode is relentless.
We spend lifetimes trying to find Love, a place to belong, and a home to return to, but if Home was never a Brave, Affirming, Secure Environment (Home-B.A.S.E.), then we may not even recognize it as an option. Instead, the journey back to self, knowledge, and source energy seems impossible, far more terrifying than the illusions of the Wizzo or the empty promise of the Yellow Brick Road. So, we keep walking and looking, longing and hoping.
What the Yellow Brick Road Represents
For those of us seeking Love and Joy, the Yellow Brick Road isn’t just a path; it embodies our search for what we never received.
✨ It is the journey to fill the void left by unmet emotional needs.
✨ It is the desperate attempt to find Love outside of ourselves because we were never taught how to nurture it within.
✨ It is the hope that if we keep going, we will eventually arrive at the place where we are finally whole.
But what happens when we realize that there is no arrival?
Because the Wizard was always a myth, the journey has no true destination, only the path back to self. And this realization can be devastating. How many years have we spent searching for someone or something that was never real? How much have we sacrificed to believe in an illusion? The pain of this truth can be overwhelming, but it is also the beginning of our liberation. Because when we stop chasing the illusion, we can finally turn inward.
The Journey Back to Self
The journey through WizOz does not end with finding the Wizzo and receiving the magic cure. Instead, it ends where it began: within ourselves. And this is where real healing begins. We start creating those things within ourselves when we stop looking for the love, validation, and joy we were denied.
🔹 We no longer seek Love as something to be given but as something to be cultivated.
🔹 We no longer depend on external validation to feel worthy.
🔹 We no longer chase illusions of happiness but learn to create joy from within.
This is how we break the cycle.
The Yellow Brick Road was never meant to take us somewhere else but to lead us home to ourselves.
