Affirmation: Ubuntu Rising
I am not alone in this world.
My story is woven into others’ stories.
My pain does not isolate me; it connects me.
My joy multiplies when shared.
My healing ripples outward.
I am because we are; and because we are, I AM.
For generations, many of us were taught to operate independently, to be strong, not ask for help, and to carry our burdens quietly. But what if healing was never meant to be individual? This SOUL Wednesday, we explore the sacred African philosophy of Ubuntu:
I am because we are. And because we are, I AM.
Join us for a powerful conversation about moving from isolation to interconnection, from performance to presence, from survival to shared strength.
Reflect, Reconnect, and Reclaim the village
Our authentic stories matter; it is time to rewrite false narratives, and we are stronger together, so what are we waiting for?
Many of our elders grew up in environments where community was sacred and essential. Neighbors knew each other, families gathered, and stories were passed down. Even in hardship, there was a connection through the energy of Love and the vibration of Joy. Somewhere along the way, the world began to teach us something different. We were told to be self-made, to compete, to achieve, to isolate, and with a goal of resilience, we carried trauma, emotional pain, and toxic stress alone. We were taught to measure worth by productivity and consumption. Moreover, this shift toward individualism created a silent epidemic of loneliness.
Ubuntu offers a return and says:
• My identity is not separate from yours.
• My healing impacts your healing.
• My joy expands when shared.
• My strength is rooted in connection.
When we say, “I am because we are,” we reject the illusion that survival must be solitary. We are affirming that our humanity is intertwined. Many of us were conditioned to believe that asking for help was a weakness. However, the wisdom of our elders teaches us that isolation is heavier than vulnerability. Ubuntu invites us back to the village where we celebrate life, love, and joy and navigate trauma, pain, and stress together. Because none of us can heal in a fractured village!
Exercise: Mapping My Village
Step 1: Who Made Me?
Reflect quietly:
• Who poured into me?
• Who shaped my values?
• Who carried me when I could not carry myself?
Write down at least three names, living or ancestors.
Step 2: Who Do I Carry?
• Who looks to me for wisdom?
• Who finds comfort in my presence?
• Whose life is different because I exist?
Write those names down.
Step 3: The Ubuntu Circle
One lesson I learned from the “village.”
One way I want to strengthen our community
Close by saying together: “Because we are, I AM.”
SOUL Reflection Quiz: Am I Living Ubuntu?
Rate each statement from 1 (Not true) to 5 (Very true):
- I feel connected to others in my daily life.
- I ask for help when I need it.
- I feel comfortable sharing my story.
- I support others even when I am tired.
- I believe my healing contributes to collective healing.
- I feel isolated more than supported.
- I celebrate others’ success as my own.
- I see myself as part of something bigger.
Reflection:
• Which answers reveal isolation?
• Which reveal connection?
• What small step can you take to strengthen Ubuntu this week?
We are becoming the “Social Architects and Alchemists” who will design our healing and transformation. Let’s affirm and manifest our divine cocoons together. #WeAreTheButterflyEffect
